Tip for today. In volume photography consistency in exposures is crucial. We can’t afford to be wasting time or money in the post capture correcting of inconsistent exposures. Get the exposure right in the camera! We are able to control our exposures using the manual settings on our cameras, off-camera flash (OCF) and posing the groups with their back to the sun, even on cloudy days. 1st we select a location, on the field, that gives us the best background for composition, taking the position of the sun in consideration. 2nd, we position the OCF units, meter, set the OCFs taking into consideration the ambient light and we custom white balance. Once exposure is locked down, we are able to focus on the players, the group composition and the capture of groups in the short timelines allowed. Yep, it takes a little extra time, but the post capture time savings is worth it.
