The U.S. Navy is looking at a "Future Fleet" consisting of up to 530 warships, at least 30 percent of which will be robotic or autonomous surface ships and submarines

I personally believe it's a mistake to have completely autonomous ships there should be a 3-man crew on those vessels they know that they are more in jeopardy as far as the fleet is concerned but someone must oversee the operation of that autonomous vehicle if necessary

Removing the human element would free up a great deal of space. Eliminated would be sleeping quarters, food storage, food prep, dining, dish washing, rec rooms, laundry, work areas, sick bay, so much access and egress. Not to mention showers, sinks and commodes. There won't be human dust, dander, bodily fluids or effluvial wastes.
