Tips for keeping your electric fence energizer working effectively with goats and sheep [PART I]

Most issues with energizers not working properly has to do with grounding issues:

1. Use enough grounding rods. A good rule of thumb is 3 ft per joule

2. Connect your grounding rods with one piece of galvanized wire since most fencing grounding rods are made of the same metal. Using different metals together can also cause corrosion and damage to your energizer.

3. Place your rods 10 ft a part.

BONUS TIP: This style grounding rod (T top) is easier to use with a mobile / temp grazing set up since they're easier to pull out of the ground.

Watch for PART 2 coming soon.

Our favorite energizers that we use on our farm are from @GallagherAnimalManagement -- this particular set up is a DIY style with a MBS 800 8 joule energizer, 3 t grounding rods, deep cycle 12v battery and a solar panel. Super easy to set up with the "plug and play" cords that come with the energizer and solar panel. Use CYLON for 10% off your entire order.

Does it matter where exactly you place the grounding rods, and if they are touching tall grass?
