Nobody would ever say "Darf ich das kaufen" because that means "Am I allowed to buy this". And you are of course allowed to buy things in a shop :) So, you would ask here "Kann ich das kaufen" = "Can I buy this".

Just a tip if you need directions or whatever: If you find a German that is in his or her twenties or thirties you have a good chance they speak perfect English.

Well, now maybe some farewell phrases would come in handy also. Ever since I was in Lower Austria for the first time I love the one they use over there - "Wiederschauen", which is short and slang-ish form of the classical "Auf Widersehen", which means "Till seeing again" more or less.

I wouldn't say "darf ich das kaufen". Instead I would say "Kann ich das kaufen?" or "Ich möchte das kaufen" or "Ich würde das gerne kaufen", that means basically the same :)

In Austria: Servus is also a way to say Hello or Goodbye.

Well...I don't doubt that as a German teacher, Mr. Antrim would sure be better equipped to eplain German Grammar, but in terms of pronunciation you are lightyears ahead of him. Judging from this video, your pronunciation is pretty much as perfect as it can get and it's hard to tell you're not a native speaker, but as for Mr. Antrim it was instantly recognizable that English was his first language.

Dude your pronunciation is nearly perfect! Awesome! Im not sure if i would know you're not a native if I only would hear you... keep going!

In Bavaria we greet each other with Grüß Gott, too. And in some areas you'll hear Servus as a greeting
