Anyone wanting to learn Data Science/Machine Learning/AI need to be very well aware before committing to that track that it is extremely difficult to get a job in the field without at least a Masters in CS, Math, Stats, or an engineering discipline. Hell many places want you to have a PhD. It is an extremely competitive job market and education really matters.

for the people that doesn't know, there is a big overlap between all the jobs in the data and AI field and it all depends on the size of the company, for example there is 6 main jobs who are responsible to build an AI product (RESEARCH/APPLIED SCIENTIST, DATA ENGINEER, DATA ANALYST, DATA SCIENTIST , MACHINE LEARNING ENGINEER OR AI ENGINEER, BI Specialist ), trust me I'v seen companies where one of these jobs will do the work of all these jobs, its insane to see how much chaotic recruiters are and how much unorganized HR departments are in some companies, so the most important thing to know is to acquire as much skills as possible so you can be ready for your next interview no matter what the job title you are applying for

The thing you said in reference to the only way to know is by dating to see what type of partner you like. Or to know what type of car you like by driving. That is the issue most have including myself, what is the best path. We depend upon the opinions of others too much versus trying for ourselves. But over time you come to understand that the real way to understand what path to take is to try it and not rush into it, take your time. I've played around with Data Science, mobile, web and other things, even a little of freelancing. It is better to try out different things and not rush into it and YES it will take longer to reach your end goal. But I think it is more sustainable to take the long path when getting into Software Development. Because you'll have a holistic perspective into your Dis-likes and likes. You'll create a sustainable foundation in the long run. Because when you figure out what you like, you can figure out also what is marketable in the real world and also what you are good at.
Great video Steff, always inspirational!

Not to mention.. aside from real developer knowledge, and life experience, you have the coolest pre-stream and end-of-video music/footage! Serious! I love that 🙂

Machine Learning (AI) and Data Science are more about math and statistics than programming. I am a bit of a nerd and enjoy math, thus when I first got into programming I wanted to be a data scientist. I am a web developer now, but what you say about the value of the skills and mindset you pick up along the way while trying different things is so true!

I agree that learning programming is a good stepping stone to one’s attitude to life.

I have two decades of testing and I'm just now getting my hands dirty with programming Python, c#, and having a play around with COBOL

Also don't forget the economical cost of full stack vs AI vs data science.

I wanna get into the tech world but not sure if I should start with a full stack bootcamp or a data analytics bootcamp. I’m mostly interested in machine learning but not sure which path would be better as a beginner and could open more doors at the beginning while I’m learning

Data engineer, thats what im going towards. Could be wrong but it looks like a good mid-way point skills-wise between back-end engineer and data scientist, so could transition into one of those later

Also automation will be in high demand in the future

um, is it good to be a Full-stack ML engineer both?, because I am interested learning these two topic/field in Tech.

Hi Stef, I want to get a job in Data Engineering/Machine Learning. Which degree would be more effective to get the job? A bachelor's in Data Analytics or Computer Science?

I believe it's important to do be doing the kind of work that one enjoys. Some people say learn whatever the employer requires. Not ideal. I'm in that position now where the employer increasingly requires skills in areas that don't interest me e.g. Java. Therefore stress levels are high and job satisfaction is low. Now considering retirement. I just don't want to do it any more.
