Stop by our short videos, where one of the 13 Icelandic Yule Lads is introduced daily until Christmas.

The 13 Yule Lads are fascinating figures from Icelandic folklore, spreading the anticipation of Christmas every winter. These unique characters are a sort of Icelandic version of Santa Claus, delivering gifts or pranks in the 13 nights leading up to Christmas.

Each Yule Lad has their own personality, traits, and a memorable name often describing their activity or characteristic. For instance, there's Stekkjastaur (Sheep-Cote Clod), who steals sheep, or Gluggagægir (Window-Peeper), peeking through windows to see what he can steal.

Traditionally, the Yule Lads come from the mountains and travel down to the towns one by one. Children place a shoe on the windowsill or table each day before Christmas, hoping the corresponding Yule Lad will leave something inside—be it a small reward or a prank like rotten potatoes.

The legend of the Yule Lads dates back to ancient stories and has become an integral part of Icelandic Christmas tradition over time. They're not just a part of folklore but also a component of modern festivities, with representations and decorations of these figures found in many parts of Iceland.

The Yule Lads represent a wonderful blend of tradition, fantasy, and fun, giving Icelandic Christmas a unique and captivating character.
