Developed and published by LucasArts in 1995

This is a re-upload to correct an issue with missing footage in mission 04 (Research Facility) - thanks to the eagle-eyed viewer who spotted the problem :)

A complete playthrough of LucasArts excellent Star Wars FPS from 1995. I played the game on hard mode, which dramatically increases the numbers of enemies you face in each mission. I also made sure to get all possible secrets in each mission.

Captured using DosBox and Dxtory, with Roland Sound Canvas SC-55 MIDI music.

One of the coolest Star Wars games.
Not only it's a great FPS, it also introduced the best Stormtrooper variant the Dark Trooper, now canon in The Mandalorian.

Games like this and half-life really need a comeback. Not just about shooting, but also exploration and some basic puzzle solving and traversal. Love em.

Came for the nostalgia, was not disappointed. Just had this playing in the background sometimes

This and Rebel Assault were the first two games my dad and I played and beat together. They also helped introduce me to Star Wars before I first watched the first three movies back in the 90s. I’ve been fan since then.

It`s always Doom or Duke Nuk'em 3D what got praised and get's attention, but Star Wars: Dark Forces was as great as the other 90's top fps games and played very often at LAN partys. It shouldn`t be forgotten.

Imperial Enemies:

*"Stop Rebel scum!"*
*"You're not authorized in this area!"*
*"Surrender immediately!"*
*"Set blasters on full!"*
*"There he is stop him!"*
*"Blast him!"*
*"Halt!"*

I love all the added flavor and the excellent sound design in this game. The sounds of the guns and effects are awesome, the voice chatter and sounds from enemies are great, the final boss has an actual personality to them and you can hear their overconfident laugh during the final battle to try giving you the nervous jitters in your chest, Kyle Katarn has a great voice actor, and we even get to see Kyle Katarn tell Jabba the Hutt to go fuck himself even with the looming threat of being fed to ferocious Kell Dragons. Just all around brilliant.

Many other aspects of the game are great too. We see familiar faces such as Mon Mothma, Crix Madine, Jabba the Hutt, Darth Vader, and even a brief cameo from Boba Fett as a boss. We see events tying Kyle Katarn to events and themes of the original trilogy movies, and its great. Dark Troopers would even make an appearance in later LucasArts games, such as Star Wars: Rebellion, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Star Wars: Battlefront (the original one). As far as I'm concerned, Dark Forces is a canon story in the Star Wars universe.

In my opinion from a gameplay perspective it outclasses more popular FPS games of its time like Doom and Duke Nukem, which are more just about playing a badass of different flavors with some mindless run and gun type gameplay making a bloody mess of enemies. And there's nothing wrong with games like those, but Dark Forces is definitely a much better challenge, is more engaging with strategy and decision making to complete the missions, and is more interesting to decide what weapons to use with the 3D nature behind the level design of many levels (tossing thermal detonators down to a lower elevation for example). And Mission 05 Gromas Mines probably had the scariest enemy I have ever encountered with the Phase 1 Dark Trooper at the end, scarier than Doom, Dead Space, System Shock 2, or games labeled as being in the horror genre.

My first game i bought for my first Pentium P75 with 8meg of RAM and a 500meg hard drive, i did the first mission off a Computer Shopper Magazine and i was hooked! ... i wish they would re-make this for todays machines just the way it is except for todays graphics and lighting/shadowing etc. Thank you... Great Job!
