Someone FINALLY speaks the truth about the Zenphone not REALLY being a small phone. Honestly, the iPhone 13 mini is the only true flagship-ish small phone these days unfortunately, and I wish there were some actual android alternatives.

Unfortunately, yes.
There is a niche market for small smartphones and someone should try to fill it.

Small phones died when people learned you can use smartphones to watch media and play mobile games. A bigger screen would mean a better viewing and typing experience (plus bigger battery).

My LG V20 is 5.7 Inches and i struggle using it one handed. i just needed to use it 2 handed despite being said "5.7 Inches". Well That didn't end here because 6 inchers are here even 6.9 inches are becoming a thing. We used to call them "Phablets" but the term just died off.

I went from the Samsung S8 to the iPhone 13 mini so I don't even think of the mini as a small phone. I chose it to stay at the phone size I was already used to so it's a normal sized phone to me, while the sizes still being sold these days aren't "normal vs big" but "big vs obscene". An actually small phone would be something like the Unihertz Jelly phones.

I alway bought the biggest phones, cause I wanted the best camera. But I hated the size. Then the iPhone 13 Mini came along and I will keep this phone forever until Apple blesses us with another Mini-version of their phones. Everyone in my family is on an iPhone 13 Mini now...

For me, if I want a phone with a bigger screen, I'll buy a tablet and buy a small phone for only calling and texting

Manufacturers tried. They failed, and the reason is simple: demand is too low.
You may hate those giant bricks as much as you want, but at the end of the day, those bricks are the ones that attract the demand.

I went from Note 9 to Pixel 6a. I never thought that I would prefer a smaller phone. I am able to reach like 85% of the screen with single hand use.

Last week I changed my smartphone, could went easily with the Sansung S24 Ultra, but instead picked the S24 regular and I'm 100% satisfied. The ergonomics is superb, in the hand or the pocket, bag etc. And with DeX is super easy when I wanna to use a bigger screen for content on my TV, work or hotel room.

And adding something very basic that you didn't cover: the weight of the big phones. Is equally as bad as the size.

I too wanted a compact phone.. the iPhone 12 and 13 minis were perfectly power packed without much of a compromise.. but then they discontinued the size.. I’m done with the big size phones.. wish brands moved towards compact sizes.. rather wish Apple just brought the mini back..

This is about greed. These days I'm looking for HTC from 2012-14 that had 4" and less (htc desire c) with 3.7

Yo, so I recently got my hands on the Galaxy S24 Plus, iPhone 15, and Pixel 8A, and let me tell ya, they all feel incredible! But out of all of them, the Galaxy S24 Plus is my absolute favorite. It's super slim, lightweight, and just feels amazing to hold.

the size of smartphones is the reason I can't upgrade atm. on the android size, the options are A) pay an outrageous amount for Samsung galaxy S## for the small size, but sacrifice expandable storage and headphone jack, or B) buy an affordable mid tier phone from xiaomi or other chinese brand, that has these features, but would require a separate car to come with me.
Also, for some weird reason, Sony phones are not sold in Turkey, and bringing a phone from abroad is subject to $1000 "IMEI activation tax"!!!!
so, yeah. I am stuck with my s9 for few years, until this size war subsides.

I use a Pixel 8 Pro and a 12 Mini for the smaller size. I do a lot of hiking and running and the 8 Pro is just too big for that. And the 12 Mini is just perfect, it holds all my music and or I can stream music/podcasts. It fits perfectly in my front shorts pocket or running vest. Great video, thank you!
