Big PR (87.6 mph) from Remote Athlete Quinn Finnegan last week. He joined us back in February sitting 77 T79 mph in games.🔥

When he first started we noticed that he leaned back pretty hard out of leg lift and wasn't getting his arm up on time.

Working on gloveside extension to keep the torso flexed longer and being more patient with the arm (among other things) has helped him gain several ticks to his fastball.

This type of increase in miles per hour is basically essential if you want to make the Major Leagues. Anything below 80 is hard to get away with even when you hit the perfect spot.

The biggest change k see is thst your more coiled and close like your front shoulder is more closed. It looks good

Throwing against a stiff landing leg is a ticking time bomb for the arm.

I'm not a pitching coach but my kid started to want to be a pitcher Early(8). We never ever thought about or even worked on velocity .We just worked control, hitting his spots.Ive coached Baseball for quite a few years but always wondered if a kid should throw hard as he can all the time.My son a tenth grader probably throws 76 at max. When he pitches though see.s to have different speeds being that he adjust his fast ball .If he needs a heater he will find it . What is the correct way?

Lots of pitching coaches tell these kids to push off that back leg but I just don’t see that happening in elite pitching. Yes there is some drive but to me it seems like that the front leg does a lot more than just land and stabilize. Am I completely wrong or is it a bit of both?

The mound my son is currently pitching off of is too short for his stride and he’s getting caught up in coaches telling him to stride more. But when he strides less he is on the money with his speed. I know over-striding can cause issues. Randy Johnson for instance didn’t have that long stride. I get it, he’s super tall but it didn’t seem to hurt his power. I’ve seen a few more lanky tall kids 6’2 at 14 but super wiry throw with good velocity with a stride closer to RJ. Was he just a freak?

We all know it’s genetics. Some people are smart, some athletic, some both, etc etc. You’re not going to “teach” anyone to throw 80+ if they weren’t born with the body/mind to do it.

Was he hurt or something? 87 isn't gonna cut it I don't think.
