China vows ‘resolute measures’ to Chinese citizens wantonly harassed, deported by US authorities

China News Service: The Wall Street Journal recently published a special report on the interview with six Chinese students and two visiting scholars who were harassed, interrogated, and deported without just cause when entering the US border. The report gave details on what happened to some of them and received much attention in the US. What’s China’s comment?

Lin Jian: China has repeatedly stated its solemn position on the US, without any just cause, harassing, interrogating, and deporting Chinese citizens, especially students and scholars. The US frequently adopts discriminatory, politically motivated and selective law enforcement against Chinese students, which severely violates the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of the persons concerned, disrupts normal cross-border travel between China and the US, runs counter to the US’s commitment to facilitating and supporting cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and contravenes the common aspiration of the two peoples in carrying out friendly exchanges. We urge the US to earnestly listen to the voice from various sectors in the two countries, stop poisoning the public support for the bilateral ties, correct its wrongdoing of harassing, interrogating, and deporting Chinese citizens without just cause, and thoroughly look into the cases to offer an explanation to the victims. China will continue to adopt resolute measures to safeguard the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese citizens.

I’m from Canada and I wouldn’t send my kids to US for schooling. I even told them anywhere but US. The crime, homelessness, gun violence, cost of living etc. it’s just not worth it. Plus, their education system is starting to go downhill. The Chinese universities are of better quality imo.

Recently a group of US students were warmly welcomed as they arrived in China. In contrast, many students from China were herded into isolation rooms at airports and interrogated for hours in order to satisfy TSA and immigration staff who consider the bullying a perk of the job.

There is a simple solution don’t pursue academic studies in the US. In any case it’s not safe for Chinese to visit US especially when Trump becomes the next president. If only US offers the course use distance learning zoom, Skype and personally meet your supervisor in a hub like Singapore more neutral territory for face to face contact or supervision if the American institution is uneasy sending staff to China cause by the fear and paranoia whipped by by western media and Capitol Hill🤔

If Chinese students are being ill treated in the US, I believe it would be more reasonable for China to look for other options for their students. Chinese students may be benefiting from US education but just as many have been contributing as students there in researches not to say their contribution to the financial viability of some US universities with the fees that these students are paying. Students can explore with other universities in Europe besides China expanding the capacity of their own universities. They can also collaborate with willing foreign universities to operate in China and allow attractive renumeration to attract good professors from local and abroad. It is probably cheaper to pay for a few good professors than paying exhorbitant fees to foreign univeristies.
