The iPad Mini has finally gotten an update to match Apple's latest iPad and iPhone design! iPads are usually about as awful as they come in repair terms, but that doesn't mean we could resist taking the cute little thing apart. We're always hoping the iPad team at Apple will start to take design notes from the iPhone team-maybe they finally have.

The day after we filmed this, Apple made a statement to Ars Technica about the jelly scroll issue!

Basically they say it's normal LCD behavior, which is true! It definitely could have been mitigated with a different display design though. It doesn't bother us too much, but what do you think?

I literally can see his happy face when he found that pull tab immediately replaced by disappointment.

iFixit - the controller board orientation explains why there's jelly scrolling
Apple - you're holding it wrong

4:30 reminds me of the Framework laptop where you have the extra screws at the top inside of the laptop

The refreshing of a display is always correlated with where the display controller is placed. You can even see it on the Apple Watches Oled display, where the control unit is on the right side of the watch housing.
When you are in a dark room and put it in theater mode and twist the crown, you’ll see the display coming to light beginning on the right side.
It’s the same thing.

watching this video made me realize that how useful 3dpriters can be for repairing.
you can just design a tool that can only go in by a specified amount of MM. so you never run into the risk of cutting anything important :) you can dull the end with slight sanding before using it too

I don’t think you want them to take tips from the iPhone team. I don’t feel like having a paired iPad screen.

It’s pretty obvious that they intend it to be used horizontally like all iPads but it’s mini so it’s easier to hold it vertically like a phone

Wow, the USB-C connector not just modular but you can also easily access the contacts to clean them or bend them back if necessary, it would be great if other devices would use this type of USB-C connector.

Discovering that the USB-C port of the iPad mini 6 is freaking replaceable is already a big YES for me to get one used today.

I never heard of or didn't notice this jelly scroll until recently when people were talking about it. Even though I now know it exists it just doesn't bother me, because I don't see it unless I am looking for it and I don't look for it.

The strong glue on the battery helps with chassis rigidity. Such a slim and big device is prone to a lot of flexing so don't be "dissapointed" that they used the glue. Be glad that it won't bend an flex like crazy.

“This speaker probably done speaking” 😂😂😂. Great vid. It would be much nicer if you could zoom in more wen showing chips and accessory components.
