Please consider bringing back the American Passenger Pigeon. Thru the 1800s, there were billions, but by 1900 we had hunted them to extinction b/c they were so tasty. I find it amazing and sad that my late grandparents interacted with them and other now-extinct animals.

While I think it is inaccurate to say the "dire wolf has been de-extincted" I fully understand and support how this technology could be used for the conservation of living species that are on the verge of dying out and it is probably much easier to get funding for "bringing back extinct species" rather than for trying to save existing ones

The animals I'm most looking forward to bringing back are the Dodo and the Thylacine, as they were completely wiped out by humans and if it weren't for people they would still be here.
I feel that reviving them would be a way to right our wrongs.

Correct me if I'm wrong colossal the grey wolf genome is 99.5% identical to the Direwolf. So when creating the Direwolves, couldn't you have just inserted genes from different species that are identical to direwolf, and slot them in that 0.5%. for example, say cancer resistance was included in that non-identical 0.5%, and the Direwolf was resistant to cancer, but the grey wolf isn't, couldn't you have inserted identical genes for cancer resistance from other closely related species, such as jackals?
