Trying to call the radiologist

This literally happened to me today. It took me three connections to find the radiologist and then he told me I needed to find the tech to answer my question.

I once called the operator "hey, can I have the extension number for the radiologist oncall?", The operator said "sure". He immediately connected my call the radiologist. I wasn't even ready to present the case

I hate the switchboard with passion. I am Dr. Kim in rad and nuc med (dual trained). There is another Dr. Kim in rad, there is another Dr. Kim in nuc med, and there is also a Dr. Kim in rad onc. All different first names. We get each others pages ALL THE TIME.

Once I was put on hold to neurosurgery - there’s two divisions - spinal or cranial. And after half hour on hold - turns out the switchboard lady connected me to the wrong division. Cue, another half hour on hold 😭

As a CT technologist myself, don’t ask for CT reading room. Just ask for body reading room if during weekday or ER Reading Room during nights and weekends. It’s not a CT reading room because radiologist read ALL modalities, not just CT :)

Switchboard! Neurology=Urology. Cardiothoracics=Cardiology. Whatever they're connected now.

Ha ha! I sometimes have to work the radiology communication line and we hear a lot of frustrated doctors, we are supposed to screen the calls for the radiologists and it can be a nightmare. We are clerks trying to keep both doctors happy, not an easy job and I do understand both sides of the story.
