The one tsar bomba left a relatively small crater in the scale of the planet.

Doing the math in reverse would be more interesting in my opinion; how many megatons would it take to blow up the planet, and how many 9's would you have to add after the decimal point of "needle travels this many percent of the speed of light" to achieve that? More?

How many megatons was the meteor that killed the dinosaurs?

Hello Tyler! I've been binge watching your shorts lately, and I found them very interesting!

Temp of needle relative to temp how? Avg velocity of molecules sure, but not the net translational velocity of the needle's molecules.

Not sure the needle will survive the atmosphere i think friction we air will just vaporize it won't touch the ground

what was the needle made of? Unobtanium?

Maybe people underestimate how strong planets are🤔

@tfolesnuclear wouldn’t a needle just vaporize as it enters the atmosphere?

I wonder if there would be explosion of any kind. When you get to relativistic speeds you mass increases, so a solid object that is size of a needle going that fast could just go thru the Earth leaving behind just a tiny hole like a tungsten bullet thru thin metal sheet. To get thru the Earth at speed of light takes about 0.04 seconds. I have no idea if I'm right though.

It probably would just go straight through the earth or stop at the core

Well the process of making the needle go that fast would make it a plasma but going that fast through the vacuum of space would not necessarily mean it is a plasma

Is the needle plasma if it's in space? No friction. But yeah, mostly nonsense for a cool animation

How big of an explosion would be required to destroy the sun. Im asking for a friend I swear im not planning anything

Did the math in reverse. It’d be 5.51666 * e^-11 megatons or 230817.108 newton meters of force, assuming the needle is 0.77grams which I googled as the average mass of a needle
