How much I spend working from Bali

$500 a month to live in paradise? I'm breaking down all my costs here per month and I'm meeting many Americans who are completely living as digital nomads. I'm asking them the pro's and con's and figuring out if this lifestyle is for me.

I'm local Balinese but live in Lombok. I think these Digital nomad or new wave hippies and eastern european expats are destroying Canggu and southern Bali as a whole. I really miss Bali 10 to 15 years ago. That's the last time when Bali were stil viewed as an escapism paradise, the thousand Gods Island shrouded with mysteries, sacred, and still natural. Now, it's just a tourist island like Ibiza and skyrocketing pricey properties and land. This is the result of overtourism.

i stayed in Bali for almost 2 months, and I can assure you that local Balinese are some of the most grateful and at peace people on earth, . OMG we are so lucky as Indonesian to have Bali. Thank you Bali and Bali people.

I work between Singapore/CN and spend time away from work in Bali. The Island is so much more than Seminyak and Canggu... If more foreigners got out of the 10KM area around the airport, they'd love this place even more, and the locals (who were especially devastated by COVID) would really appreciate it.

By law, you don't have to pay taxes if you work here (in our country) as a digital nomad, as long your income doesn't comes from Indonesia.

By law, if you want to get these privileges and if you are intend to do so, you must apply and stay in Indonesia under digital nomad visa. You can't come here on a tourist visa and work as a digital nomad. Please don't abuse your visa permit. It violates immigration laws of Republic Indonesia. You may get deported and banned for years.

Thanks Uptin for a great video. As an Indonesian, I am just forever grateful and proud to have Bali as part of our culture and heritage; I hope the digital nomads will also explore other areas too around Indonesia. We have so much to offer.

Most of those Asian country gets paid nothing. And a lot of things are "cheap" from there for us. But for the locals it's expensive. If that makes any sense.

When the friend said "they come to Bali thinking to pay .25c for a coffee, go to Vietnam" I had to LOL. The cost of a coffee in Vietnam, in HCMC at least, is now more expensive than in Hong Kong. Just saying.

covid pandemic has shown that bali and its people need foreign tourists to survive, however the problem lies with the fact that these tourists are mostly congested in few areas like Canggu or Ubud. Anyway Bali is still pretty cheap even for the locals like me.

A passing comment. Learn bahasa, find local friends, adapt to tradisional food. Bahasa is a must to find a cheap and good food

Bali seems a bit too touristy for me but maybe for a digital nomad, that’s actually good because it means it has the services one might need for digital nomad.

This video has helped me in so many ways from what it’s actually like being a digital nomad to kind of getting started, this is something that I would like to do in my life at some point as freedom is one of my most important values to me, if anyone on here knows any other videos like this one or more information about getting start in digital nomad work I would greatly appreciate it.

God knows why the average supermarket item prices in Bali are 30% higher than national average.

this is so true, let's chat if you want to hear more. For those who are in Bali, as a fellow Indonesian, I would express my deepest gratitude. Please enjoy and use this opportunity and in the same time growing our local economy. One thing I would ask, please respect our culture, learn to blend in, and share this news to your friends. Don't let one hiccup or make some incident that might escalate the situation which resulting in a loss-loss outcome. THanks

Being a digital nomad is a privilage that people of few countries can indulge. Most of them bring buisness for few of the locals, while screwing the rest of the people living there.

I did the digital nomad lifestyle but for 5 months in Latin America and 2 months Europe last year. I traveled across 22 countries it was hard and tough especially in the beginning because I basically was “WFH” I just took my job with me on the road cause I got tired of staying in home in NYC during Covid-19 times. You have to be discipline and very punctual. Cause I still had to get work done but I enjoyed traveling and being a tourist during the weekends and weeknights. I personally don’t like Bali because I like going off the beaten path and this place is like 2-3 more expensive than all the countries I went to, and getting too saturated IMO . But great video

once upon a time NY and LA and other cities were like this you could afford to move to a cheap part of town and make ends meet but no longer - rents and stagnant wages and the rise of tech bros/finance bros have led to basically no lifestyle in the U.S. however, this is still possible in Asia or S. America, and because of the rise of Amazon, and globalized stores like costco/H&M you will be living the same exact lifestyle at 1/3 of the cost so you can actually live your life and get ahead instead of having 5 roomates + no savings.

Why do Americans/ foreigners look better living abroad? Do good looks relate to intelligence and knowing to get out of America's decline, or do good looks help people succeed as digital nomads and to leave for a better life? Or maybe Uptin interviewed only the better looking people to glamourize the lifestyles of the digital nomads. Hmm... Whatever the reason, great inspirational video!
