Personal space is the area around you that you feel comfortable with other people being in. Just like everyone else, you have your own personal space and it's important to respect it.
When you're talking to someone, it's important to stand a little bit away from them. This gives each of you some space to breathe and feel comfortable. And, if you want to hug or touch someone, always ask first.
Personal space is also important when you're playing or doing activities. If you're playing with someone and they're getting too close or touching your toys, it's okay to tell them "I need my personal space."
Respecting personal space helps you feel safe and comfortable. So, next time you're talking to someone or playing with friends, remember to give each other some space!

Social stories are a tool used to teach social and life skills to Autistic people or those with other developmental disabilities. They are short, simple, and descriptive stories that provide information about specific social situations, such as how to make a friend, how to behave in a restaurant, or how to handle disappointment.
The stories are written from the perspective of the person with the disability and typically include specific details about what to expect, what the appropriate behaviours are, and why they are important. The goal of social stories is to help individuals understand the social norms and expectations in different situations, and to provide a framework for appropriate behaviour. They are often used in combination with other interventions, such as visual supports and reinforcement, to reinforce the desired behaviours.
