Product Review - Old-school Ogre Battalion - Warhammer Fantasy

In this unboxing/review, I take a look at the old Ogre Battalion that was replaced when the Ogres were re-done earlier this year.

My goal is to try building these guys up and painting them to go along with the other finecast Ogres I purchased recently (which I'll also review and unbox), although I won't be following this project as religiously as the Project Dwarfs was. Hope you enjoy this little look at the big fat brutes of the Ogre Kingdoms!

@KainTLA Thank you! I should have realized that when I looked at the frame lol I just was really taken aback by its simplicity =D

Best of luck in your ToMG event! Keep us posted on how you do, and I'd love to hear what your tactics with Ogres are!

Good point! Although, until the new White Dwarf, I was really liking the teal/gold/silver of the Nikilah or however you spell it dynasty, I agree, the old necrons never appealed to me because they didn't look at all fun to paint.

Ogres are great fun! If you haven't seen them yet, my project ogre videos go over the different units I painted and what my experience was. I loved painting the leadbelchers the most, I think. Soot and bloody shrapnel is great. Skin's really fun to paint, too!

Wow, haha, I totally forgot I had made this video! I think that either one would do you well, since they're both popular armies. I think you have more choice for tactics with Necrons, though. Ogres seem to favor the "rush forward and bash it" plan, whereas Necrons can fit a bunch of different tactics.

@WarbossTae something else that struck me, is that those gut plates would look AMAZING as shields on a unit of regular sized guys! maybe a unit of chaos marauders, or a rogue unit of bretonnian knights...

@manofwargaming haha, I hope to, although with the Vampire Counts marching our way, any Ogre videos might be put on the backburner.

@OrestisTheGreek Believe me, its getting harder and harder to find clever ways of storing these minis. Soon, they'll have to be boxed up and put into the garage, but for now, I have a cabinet near my work area that fits them (mostly) all nicely.

@RyanRancidStaines Thank you! Yes, I'm definitely going to be picking up a skeleton box and if I can't find the one I know is around my house, a corpse cart. =D

@VividAdventures2010 Thanks! I agree, the little gnoblar piggyback model is one of my favorites! Thanks for commenting! =D

very nice! that big disc looks like it might be the back for the banner top shaped like a mouth with the skulls in.

@archaeolas Thanks for the feedback! You're absolutely right, it fits perfectly there, haha I wish I realized that when I saw it on the frame =P

Love the maneater pirate! I also like the noblar (sp) that is stacked two high. haha

These really looks like a cool box set here!

@williammoller9 haha, awesome! Now I can put those little buggers to work in my Gnoblar unit instead of freeloading in the Ironguts unit! Thanks for the info!

And thanks for watching and commenting! =D

hey Tae! as you may recall(or may not) a few days ago I asked you if you knew of any heraldry books for dwarves(there arnt any) but I did find something in the back of the dwarf armies book, any way to the actual point, my questions about painting and basing. In what order do you do the stuff? do you glue them together then prime then paint or what? oh and any ideas for making a snow base? thanks,

-Zorac

@bazZy33K haha, I was actually thinking about painting one up like Clem, because they reminded me of him as well. I agree, the Gnoblars are fantastic! =D

Thanks! And what you say is very true, sometimes the half-naked obese man is just not something you want to paint haha!

Try checking out the ogre stronghold website, they have a lot of great project logs with people painting their ogres a mixture of old and new styles.

Cool stuff bud! Are those yours or is it a commission?

classic yeah you're right! but the painting side of things, necrons have about three colours, where as ogres are like the rainbow.. well not quite.. but, yeah.
anyway, what's the skin like to paint? because i've never really liked painting skin but you make it look soo easy!

The metal disc goes on the back of the ironguts banner pole icon thingy :) Ive just started Ogres for tale of meny gamers at my local GW. Im regreting it now though as Ive seen the new VC minis :(

Yes I remember! The back of most army books is actually a great wealth of alternate color schemes, sorry I didn't think of that. But it would be great if GW made Uniforms and Heraldry books for all the armies, especially for collectors such as myself =/

The order I do it is usually:

1) Glue models together
2) Glue base material on
3) Prime and paint model, then paint the base
4) Flock with grass
5) Profit =D

@Generalsplatton Thanks, Splatton! For the foreseeable future, they're mine haha ugh I need to make even MORE space now in my hobby station to store them. Hopefully, when they're all finished one day I'll be able to sell them for a good price.
