Unboxing the TG-7 and taking you on a fall photo walk

For this week's video, let's unbox the new TG-7 that I just bought, and let's go on a fall photo walk with the TG-7, the OM-1, and the OM-5. What do you think of the TG-7 and using live composite this fall? I look forward to discussing this topic with you this week.
Note: The final panorama shot is taken with the TG7 not the OM-5. Sorry for the editing mistake.

This is Olympus's best attempt at a camera that could simulate- with some innovation on the consumer end- the top action cameras, with fancy photographic properties, like pro capture.

Great video.

I got the TG-7, in red (I'm a black camera guy, so I got extravagant here).

I also got the silicone jacket and a twisting lens cap for extra protection. I also added the light guide.

Very cool everyday carry rough and ready camera.

Looking forward to your review of the TG7’s handling and capabilities.

Definitely tempted by the TG-7, I inherited a gopro 4 a while back thats "everywhere" but not exactly what I want in terms of a camera :P

Going to put it on the potential list (Also borrowed a classic film OM-2 today from my lovely camera store friends because I want to try out some across film :) )

Thanks for the video-great, as always. I’ve had the TG-6 for almost 3 years now-it’s always with me on hikes and took it snorkeling this summer! I love the macro mode for small fungi but especially for slime molds. I’m probably not upgrading, but would be happy to hear what you feel are the reasons one would upgrade. Oh, and thank you for showing the little pack thing, I need to get one of those!!

Super sharing.
I recommend the bright coloured wrist float for the camera then when u r playing with the camera in the waters, it wont sink.

I had the orange one 😊

Mine arrived last week. It's my first Tough camera. I bought the Adventure case, because it was on sale for £1, and it fits on my belt so I can always carry the camera with me, which is much better than using a phone, and a lot lighter and more discrete than my EM-1iii. And with the red colour, no one is going to think it's a serious camera (if I was into street photography). I also got the LED diffuser rather than the flash one. I've only used it on one shoot of fungi, but it worked really well. You can really put it places that other cameras won't fit, and microscope mode captures even the tiniest mushrooms. It was Prime Day here in the UK last week and I spotted the Underwater Housing for £200 instead of £300, so I grabbed that too. I can't resist a bargain. Not sure how much use I will get out of it, but I'm spending at least half the year in Sicily so will be spending a lot more time in the sea. I might even find some surf this winter. I still have to explore a lot more of its features, functions and quirks, but it already feels like a really fun, everyday carry camera.

Great video! I have a TG-5, and trying to decide whether to upgrade to the 7. Note on your video, you demonstrate the panorama mode, but labeled the photo as being taken with the OM-5 in Hi-Res mode.

Don't forget Emerald Pool in Pinkham Notch in the springtime, just prepare for les moustique!

Why do you show the final pano at 7:52 captured with the OM-5 and not the one captured with the TG-7, strange!

For panorams with the TG series, rotate the camera around an axis centered on the lens and don't move the camera sideways. The stitching will be more accurate.

I have other compact durable cameras, but I'd like to be able to shoot raw images.

Hey Emilie, can you use the TG7 as an action camera, ie has it got stabilisation, a mic, in stream zoom, and video image quality? I currently have an Olympus Tough TG4 tracker stylus is why I'm asking. Kind regards.

Could you please tell me the name of your camera bag? Thank you

I have to say the Tough series finally needs a 1 inch sensor. I have both full frame and m43 and the tough series needs to stand out a bit as an adventure camera that can also capture amazing images. My phone right now can take better photos than the tough series cameras so they need a bigger sensor and better AF. Im not saying that this sensor needs to be apsc or m43 size, it can be 1 inch and it also needs matching video capabilites. Im pretty sure if this camera had a 1 inch sensor and 10bit 60p 4k video in log (also mic input) people would be buying it like crazy. It needs to be better than phones.

The Olympus TG series have a better option than gopros for underwater. A little more expensive, but better quality images and video. It will be my next camera when I get back to a scuba diving spot. Most people that I see using the 5 or 6 have bought the underwater housing like people with gopros do. Once you get into larger cameras it gets expensive. The TG series is in that sweet spot between inexpensive gopro entry level stuff and high end cameras with expensive underwater housings.

Hi Emilie, Thanks for your video..
I received mine on Wednesday but had to return it by Friday due to several issues:
1. The autofocus on this camera is the worst I've ever seen in any camera; it's practically unusable.
2. The image quality is disappointing; even mobile phone photos look better, even when shooting in RAW.
3. The LG-1 light causes reflections on all metallic and shiny objects, such as jewelry and rings, which can be frustrating.
4. While the camera offers a lot of options like bracketing and stacking, these features are essentially useless with this sensor.
5. To top it off, the price is far too high for what you actually get.

By the way, I'm an Olympus user with an OM-1 and a collection of OM system lenses, but a $50 macro lens with my iPhone 12 pro max is much much better (unfortunately) than this TG-7

You have not yet addressed my request. Maybe you forgot, or not had time.
