I think the Rav4 prime hybrid engine, tuned for more HP and Tq will be the engine of choice. That would be an over 300 hp and 310+ tq. That would be a great truck.

Won't happen, but would love to see Toyota give us (USA) one of their fine diesels from overseas in the next Tacoma. I'll settle for a hybrid in the upper 20's combined MPG though.

One request with the Tacoma. Please keep the bed height the same. Its perfect to reach over the side and mess with stuff in the bed. The Ranger bed is way too tall and not practical.

Toyota missed the opportunity to make the most sought after truck ever when they decided not to put the 2UZ-FE in the Tacoma back in the mid 2000s. That 4.7 would have made the Tacoma absolutely perfect

Calling it now....ONLY gonna be available with 2.4T 4-banger and a 10 spd auto. I'd be surprised if they had a manual transmission option.

The next generation tacoma will either have the current engine with an electric motor, and transmission sandwich like the next generation tundra, or the 2.0 Litre turbo from the is300, and the late Lexus GS. The 4th gen taco might even get back the 1GR-FE, but with a different transmission.

It would be a shame if there was no "simple" drivetrain options. A decent NA motor with a manual is the sort of vehicle that could have legendary longevity and reliability. These overly complicated drivetrains don't give off the same sense of confidence.

I feel like Toyota doesn’t want to lose sales to the new Frontier, so they’ll update the 3.5 with more hp, but also offer a hybrid version.

The TNGA platform is a 4 link rear platform. Of course the Tacoma will be a 4 link.

What I think is that they might keep the V6, but put in the same power train as the Highlander. They might still keep the manual if I’m not mistaking because I saw a video of a 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and most people commented about keeping the manuals and Toyota itself liked their comments about saving the manuals. So Toyota must have been listening to most people lately.
