Interesting interview! I´m from Sweden myself and Bogdan´s work is appreciated! Times had changed so much. When I tried to find books on magic in the early 90s, it was quite difficult. And without internet it was hard to find info about events, persons etc. Now lots of book publishers print hard-to-find grimoires. I´m glad there has been a new renaissance regarding this.

Great discussion. To my ears, Prof. Bogdan's key directives to widen impact of esotericist studies: Contextualizing them in the history of ideas; Rehabilitating the comparatist method by studying esoteric practices from a perennialist rather than an essentialist perspective.

You always have the most amazing conversations Dr P, this was very informative and engaging. The state of the Humanities as mentioned in the interview is sad and troubling, if the usual standard of public 'debate' is any thing to go by we need them more than ever, more power to you both.

Great interview. I really enjoyed the discussion about the origins of modern occult study as well as the reaffirmation of not shying away from complexity.

I think the subject of guilt associated to magical practice depends on the cosmological/metaphysical perspective held by the practitioner and how they size up their own place in the universe according to it. For someone who feels a kind of "oneness" with the larger macrocosmic goings ons of things it can be understandable how they would see obstacles or roadblocks as something to take less personally than some others might. There are multiple traditions that can give you this perspective and not just Hermetic or Western ones either. I believe some of this is really apparent in traditionalist school of thought influenced mystics, but I certainly see it more with those who practice traditions that center around deconstruction of the "Me" verses the "Self". I can certainly see how some perspectives coupled with some practices/traditions could give one that sense of guilt when things go awry, but I have also known a great deal of figures who possessed a kind of ambivalence towards occasional obstacles; usually predicated on the reasons mentioned above.

you're both super talented, it's nice to see this side of the various esoteric orders and magic, it's sad that on youtube a lot of people see only the bad and the evil, i wish they will find videos like this one.

Enthralling chat! So jealous I couldn't be there too, as while watching this I found myself really anxious with so many insights to add, and of course questions to ask haha.

Great video. Interesting point about the use of the term "western esotericism." After all, it has been true for centuries that European esotericism has long drawn upon the Other, in the sense that it draws upon something other than the quotidian reality of (western) life. Consequentially there is a strain of Orientalism, of claiming legitimacy by tracing roots to Solomon, the Egyptians, etc., as seen in the enduring popularity of the Lesser (and Greater) Key of Solomon. The genuinely oriental origin of some of these influences has long been in dispute, as in the controversies over the authorship of the Zohar.

Pharaoh Thotmuse the, III is said to be connected with Rosicrucianism according to AMORC. I am curious if there is any ancient Egyptian literature on this.

I come to listen to Angela's soft, seductive voice, as she talks with another man about the Occulture she seeks to bring to efflorescence. Fascinating stuff indeed.

I Want so much to study the connections between Right and esotericism... seems to me such a great subject, but you know, people may just call me crasy... but come on, this is fucking important...

Angela, I don't quite agree with your point at minute 43 that practitioners feel a burden of responsibility for not being 'a good enough Magician'. I think that most practitioners have the attitude that with dedication and practice they will improve, like with sport or playing a musical instrument. A feeling of not being good enough is more of a Catholic thing. Prof Henrik mentioned that Pentecostals think that sin makes prayer ineffective due to separation from God. When I was a Pentecostal it was not sinning that was the constant burden but lack of faith. With faith you can move mountains without it you can do nothing. But how do you get more faith? That, in my experience, was never taught. However, in social media, I notice that a lot of practitioners, who came from strict Christian backgrounds, bring a lot of trauma with them. As Jung said, "You can leave Christianity but it does not leave you." (Liber Novus p 293)
