The best known of all the younger Malagasy musicians; he is considered to have successfully captured the musical spirit of Madagascar. Rossy is from the generation who grew up listening to a popular band called Mahaleseo, which began incorporating international popular music into traditional Malagasy music. In 1981, Rossy formed a band which has toured extensively in Europe. “Maki” was written as part of a soundtrack for a BBC documentary on Madagascar called “Islands of Ghosts”.
