Understanding the context :
In the 1980s, a group of Muslims known as Jamaat Almuslimeen waged a war against drug lords in the ghettos of Trinidad.
Their efforts were met with resistance from authorities, as high-profile politicians and members of the police were implicated in drug trafficking.
In 1990, Jamaat Almuslimeen orchestrated a coup against the government.
Following their release from prison, they abandoned their street-level activities.
Since then, Trinidad's crime situation has deteriorated significantly, with many attributing this decline to Jamaat Almuslimeen's withdrawal from community service.
Today, various gangs, including Muslim ones, have emerged, exacerbating the problem.
