***Note*** As of 10/23/2020 Tesla is by far the world's most valuable car company as measured by market capitalization at $400B+. Toyota is a distant second with $200B+ in market cap. Volkswagen is a distant third with approx. $100B in market cap. Toyota is still the most profitable company as judged by net income, EBITDA, gross operating margin, etc.

Tesla are doing vertical integration because they can. Most other companies cannot. That’s the reason Tesla are doing Dojo and VW and Toyota are not. Once you understand why Tesla can, you will understand why Tesla is valued so highly.
