Open Stance vs. Neutral and Closed Stance Forehand

In this video I discuss whether or not you should hit open stance forehands or more neutral stance forehands.

Many club level players misinterpret what's going on at the professional level and hit with fully open stance forehands, which even the pro players rarely do.

Hi Florian:

As usual, another very useful tip.  Thank you.  I believe that I do generally hit my open stance forehand in the preferred position, but your video provides me with a useful check to insure that I maintain that position.

His issue was not the open stance. But the way he was executing his open stance shot. No athleticism, no loading of the legs at all. Open stance is for people that have some athleticism to take advantage of the extra racket speed it allows.

zero load with the legs on the forehand, no load and rise with the legs action. right arm way too extended right after his racquet drop (probably watched too many federer slow motion videos). but then again, i probably look worse

Great tip as usual from Florian, but there is a bigger mistake that the guy in the video was making, and that kinda distracted me a little bit. I am no expert, but looks like he was standing too close to the baseline (knowing he was getting deep balls), not stepping back in time and therefore hitting off his heels.
