Honda NC750X DCT Honest Review

Honda plays a risky game of creating high expectations and not necessarily delivering. In this case it's their positioning of Honda NC750X DCT in and adventure motorcycles segment alongside Honda Africa Twin, Honda Transalp and.... a scooter... This couldn't have gone the right way and it doesn't. Watch to find out what it's like to ride this motorcycle with DCT - Dual Clutch Transmission, so basically an automatic transmission.
All views are my own and I'm not associated with any motorcycle brand nor any dealership, so the video is based on my personal experiences with this and other motorcycles. Enjoy!

Highly recommend a touring windshield and a extender. It makes the wind effects tolerable. I have a 2015 dct, no issue at all, 55000 kilometers and i do a solid 130 kilometer in the highway. I commute 80 kilometers every day. No issues at all, just oil change and keep going, as long you keep it well maintained, this bike will take you everywhere. Biggest con, is the fuel tank, capacity and location. Is a good solid bike.

I'm on my 3rd DCT Honda. NC750X, XADV, and now NT1100. (My 23rd motorcycle in the past 33 years). Honda has me as a "captive customer" with the revelation of DCT. My play bike is a Suzuki RGV 250 2-stroke gp replica. (I know manual shifting as a former racer). But DCT the greatest innovation since ABS. Thank you Honda. Well done. Where has DCT been all my life?! 😂 (My Audi TTRS coincidentally has DCT as well). I'm a dedicated DCT disciple. Glad Honda however give people a choice with some of their models. BMW, KTM, Yamaha, MV Agusta and others all pursuing clutchless autotype shifting. Manual gearboxes in cars are nearly extinct. Motorcycles? DCT adds not detracts from the overall motorcycle riding pleasure.

I am 1.90 tall. A Puig touring screen and a deflector (not the Puig deflector, it cannot be raised enough) are just enough to eliminate buffing. It also protects well agains rain. But currently, in summer at 30°C, I use the standard screen for more fresh air.

Today I was on a trip over 3 alp passes, each 2000m. The agility due to the low center of gravity makes her ideal for sharp U-Turns and quick direction changes, good torque at low revs helps accelerating out of the turns. If straights between turns are only 50m, you don't miss the high end power. I just don't rely on the automatic downshift solely. Before overtaking, I tip on the downshift button once or even twice.

Any bike can be an “Adventure bike” even if it’s a 50cc motorcycle… it is “You” who makes the adventure not the bike itself😊

I have had a Suzuki Gladius in Paris for over 8yrs. I got tired of the continuous gear shifting and decided to go for the NC. I test rode it for an hour, it felt comfortable. My bike arrives next week. Yours is the first critical review i have seen.

You forgot to talk about the User riding mode. There you can customize gearbox shift times, engine braking, traction control, also the rpm where the bike will shift. It requires advanced settings but once you set it up to your liking is brilliant.
You didn’t show the parking brake.
Also some of the fastest maxi scooters on the market are twice as slow as the NC.
I pull away at all traffic lights from bigger and more powerful bikes.
Another thing you forgot to mention is the very low fuel consumption on this bike. I get about 3-3, 5 liters per 100km.
Thanks for the review

Just down shift with paddle at anytime you need too and accelerate. 2023 NC will be my next bike.

If you did your homework and researched the NC 750X DCT before buying it and watched a lot of youtube videos you would know the pro and cons of this bike. It has a specific all around usage and very very moderate dirt road riding. The screen and other aspect are spelled out clearly if you did your homework. Its a great reliable motor cycle for what it specifically intended for.

Not sure why people criticize the dct but not quick shifters. There is a lot of undeserved criticism here that long term owners of this model would not agree with.

I have a 2023 model…..perfect for me and my likes and that’s all that matters……each to their own, we all love bikes….that’s all that matters, just ride safely and let’s all enjoy our quirky bikes…..whether a scooter or a Harley….

An experienced Rider would never choose the sport-mode in the city. He would feel after a few meters that it is the wrong mode for the city. A skill that is not given to everyone.

I upgraded from a moped to NC750X DCT 6 months ago for my daily commute through the city. Your final conclusion that this bike is "....a nicer moped for city riding, " is 100% accurate. However I must add, at first I also kept a BMW GS for weekend riding. Not really adventurous off roading, but heading into the hills and hitting the twisty roads. I've since sold the GS because my Honda had become my go-to bike for everything now. Apart from the terrible suspension, it's a pretty good all rounder, and I'd choose it again.

I really hate how they pretty much took every last part of the "X" namesake out of the bike. I have a 1st gen NC (back when it was a 700, not a 750). Manual transmission, no riding modes, no gear indicator, nothing (still got that sweet storage space though). It's 30mm taller than the new ones, feels a lot less "plasticy" and brittle and rides just fine. I do agree with a lot of the points made here - I had to do quite a bit of work to make it into a real do-it all machine - new suspension, crash bars, skid plate, taller windscreen with a little clip-on extention, bar risers, lower wide pegs, the list goes on. HOWEVER - after properly setting it up it's such a joy to ride. 148, 000 km on the clock and the bike works like a charm!

So you can't have an adventure on the road? I did. I rode my bike 8000km last summer to Yukon Territory up the Cassiar and it was awesome. Not everyone needs a two wheel Jeep.

I have been using it for 4 years. Yes, it is a bit boring bike. However, it is unique with its DCT and front rack that you cannot find on any other bike. The front rack is actually for a helmet, not a beer :) A full-size helmet fits perfectly.

I honestly believe you have been spoiled by bikes such as Africa twin, for a new rider or someone coming from a scooter or moped, this bike will be like a rocket ship,
If you know what your buying, a 750 cc 60 hp bike you will love it, and this bike is perfect for highways and interstate travel, way more than enough, but not an Africa twin

Test driving before buying is crucial. Many people don’t do REAL hardcore off-road anymore, even with their Africa Twins, hence Honda's decision to put a smaller front wheel on the Arica Twin so it is more comfy for touring.
