i feel u with your professor retiring. had a professor (she was in her 40's) initially just take a semester off (ended up being a year) due to pregnancy complications. after coming back and teaching for a year, she had to fully resign to become a full-time mom. even my professors who had her as their student was sad upon the announcement cuz she was one of their best students and our best professors.
