It's really rather simple...

Opponent proceeded to deviate on the first move of the calculation

And that's why when someone says: "I'm like a chess master, I always think 3 steps ahead." it's funny.

These calculations where there is only one good move but are longer are rather simple, the ones where there are a lot of options and silent moves are much more difficult even when they are only like 4-5 moves long

That, "Ah, it's a funny line." gets me every time. 😂🤣😂🤣

Consciously it's limited but intuition can think many moves ahead. That's why great chess players learn to use it.

It doesn’t matter if the opponent didn’t follow that exact move sequence. The whole point of calculating was to check if Kxc4 is a good move or not

Very cool position lol, the symmetry made it a lot easier to calculate

Imagine if the opponent just didn’t move there lol

So this is what goes on in Eric’s head every time he says “so there’s this funny line”

The most important thing ... "It's a funny line."

Reminds me of Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual. But it would stop at the starting point of the video and declares the obvious win for white expecting you to see the 20 moves ahead without further elaborating on it :P

Opponent is like... too complicated: I castle

I really want something exactly like this, except after all the arrows and circles are drawn, Eric makes the first move, it's wrong, and he yells "DOH"

Eric you look like Ronnie O'Sullivan - Snooker Goat

If the game played out the exact way he calculated then I'd be impressed

I paused the video in the beginning and calculated almost exactly the same as he did. Just made a slight mistake and forgot that the second queen promotion comes with check.

I calculate 137 moves into the future, where I lose by checkmate
Another game was when I calculated 253 moves for stalemating an opponent.

sad the video ended before we got to see what happened

So when stockfish tells me *Blunder: Lost forced checkmate*, it expects me to have done this??? 🤨
