Silicone is NOT caulk!! It works well compressed in between 2 metal pieces where a gaskett would be used, but it NEVER stays adhered to ANY exterior surface!
After over 40 years as a sheet metal contractor, I can't begin to count how many hundreds of times I have (easily) pulled of failed silicone "caulk".
Please use an elastomeric or butyl based caulk such as Sikaflex, Vulkem, Geocell, or other high quality caulks when caulking can't be avoided, although it is WAY better to use metal flashings whenever possible, as ANY caulk will eventually fail (but not nearly as fast as silicone losing it's adhesion).
For reference, I was chosen to help write the California Contractor's License Test a few years back, so I DO know what I'm talking about!
