Graphing an absolute value equation with transformations and a vertical stretch

👉 Learn how to graph absolute value equations when we have a value of b other than 1. B will affect our horizontal shift as well as horizontal stretch compress. We will do this by first identifying the axis of symmetry and using a table to plot the points. However, once we have an understanding of what the graph looks like we will move to graphing using the parent graph and transformations. To do this we will need to understand what different types of transformations we have that affect the graph. These transformations include, reflections, shifting, horizontal stretch, compression, and vertical stretch and compression. We will then discuss how to identify the domain and range from the graph.

Can you please just become my teacher? I've learned in just these 4 minutes something that took me much longer to get the hang of at my school. You are an amazing math teacher! Keep it up!!

Why do you set bx-h equal to zero to find x value of vertex?

Sir, what is the difference between the graph slopes in these two cases ? e.g : y= | 3x-6| +1 and y = 3 | x -6| + 1 ... the 3 is inside the absolute value symbol in the first case and outside the symbol in the second case

Wouldn’t it be -4 and -7? I’m confused
Edit: Oh wait, I forgot about the absolute value. Now I get it. Sorry. Thanks!

Here's an interesting absolute value equation to graph:
y=|x|-x+1
