Going from Logitech G29, CSL Elite & Clubsport to the Fanatec CSL DD

The next generation appears to be cuboid. The Fanatec CSL DD has been with me for a couple of weeks after an early dispatch of the early pre-orders and I've had time to get to know it. In general, the CSL DD replaces the CSL and CSW completely and they're officially consigned to history. Logitech users making the jump will find an even lovelier experience awaits. People already with Fanatec wheelbases will find improvements but nothing soul-shaking, just a good incremental step up that's great for sim racing enthusiasts and an unmatched (yet) 'standard benchmark' in this price bracket.

I have not been commissioned to create this video from Fanatec and I bought the CSL DD with my own pocket money, not that this matters or is an indication of authenticity, all serious video people that care about their reputation will only say things that they truly think. I review things of importance and hope that you guys will use the links above which may earn me a commission from the manufacturer, but nobody goes hungry if you don't.

Minor correction - they don't require 3 components. As someone who uses a wheelchair, I use my formula v2 wheel with podium shift module and the clutch levers mapped to throttle and brake, so I don't need pedals. The included clutch levers on the mclaren wheel can be used for the same purpose. For the majority of people pedals are required, but just something to note as a great option for those of us with limited mobility :)

Thanks to you I bought the CSL Elite from a Logitech and loved it. I got the Elite and fell back in love with sim racing. I now have the CSL DD and it’s mind blowing!!! I love it. Love your clear and precise videos with no bull, drama, acting. Just good clear instruction.

2:46 genuinely had me creasing lol. Informative and soooo helpful as always. I have a CSL elite and have done for almost 3 years. I’ve really enjoyed it on the whole however the more I enjoy sim racing, naturally the more I want to upgrade so this review is really helpful. I put an order in last week so should see it come November time.

I suspect a bit like others reported with the DD1, that in time games will become better tuned to the wheel base and vice versa with firmware updates that it’ll only get even better so it’s definitely an investment!

8:04 while the logitech pedals and shifter don't work out of the box without the Logitech base, you can definitely buy adapters which make them compatible, I think this is important to bring up as you can absolutely enjoy the CSL DD and only have to buy a wheel and some adapters rather than spending more hundreds on new pedals and the same again on a new shifter. Personally I recommend the leo bodnar pedal adapter and the same for the shifter adapter, I think they're £25 ish per. The leo bodnar pedal adapter has added benefits of making the pedal travel linear and adjustable using their software.

Finally someone covered sound. Thanks a lot for the review. Looks like I’ll be picking one up by the end of the year.

Great video mate, this is what we need a video from someone that doesn't have a dd1 or dd2 and of course this is a slight downgrade, for us Logitech or csl elite owners we need to hear from people that are in the same boat with the wheels they have. I hope to grab one of these soon and appreciate your great review. Keep up the good work mate.

Thank you Danny, very informative. I just ordered my Fanatec set up with the CSL dd, pedals shifter and handbrake, I have to be patient as it will not be available until mid November. However it is always good to hear that one has done something right as I too have been using a G29 for many years and finally decided to step up to DD. That coupled with my new sim rig Trak racer 180 should be a vast improvement on my previous rig. Looking forward to getting it all put together in time for the annual time trials at my house over the holidays. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

I upgraded from a CSW to the CSL DD. I play mostly ACC and equally I found the improvement marginal but noticeable. I'm happy with the switch to DD, but equally bummed out by the money I lost on selling my 8 month old CSW. My advice for Logitech users, wait for the marketplace to be flooded with CSL Elite and CSWs as the DDs are delivered. You'll have nearly the same experience, for less money.

2:10 watching back after 3 years its really wholesome to hear, knowing the place with sim racing gear you are at right now

The force feedback in acc was definitely designed mainly for a dd wheel. I have a thrustmaster ts-pc (compared to fanatec, i have heard it's between the csl elite, and csw 2.5, in terms of force feedback) the ffb in acc feels ok on my wheel, but not as good as some other sims in all honesty. But with a dd, i've heard many people said that acc has one of the best, if not the best ffb system.

I would buy this in a second if there was a budget option for the actual wheel as well.

You can use the logitech pedals with fanatec gear. You use a Leo Bodnar usb adapter for Logitech G25, G27, G29, G920

Excellent analogies to help us understand the difference between the CSL Elite and new DD! Nice roundup.

Finally a solid review instead of YouTubers just trying to sell it so their affiliated links bring them money

My question is, is this worth the 2x price tag from a T300rs?
