Onboard Aston Martin DBR9 vs Maserati MC12 V12 GT1 battle at Spa

At the Spa 24 Hours, during a historic support race, this incredible battle broke out between two Audi R8 GT3s, two Aston Martin DBR9s and two Maserati MC12 GT1 cars.

The amazing battle in the Endurance Racing Legends race was captured by this onboard footage from Richard Meins – driver of the DBR9 – as he fought for the first two laps of the race around the sweeping corners of Spa-Francorchamps.

FIA GT1 World Championship too bad its not around anymore. Loved the DBR9 from the early 2000s! (2004-2007) 😁 Loved driving the MC12 in NFS Shift 2: Unleashed it had the smoothest acceleration! Matter of fact I believe I used the same paint livery as the one in this video! (Blue and Black one)

Lot of armchair racers in chat. It's a 15+ year old GT1 car. They weren't exactly known for being easy to drive. These drivers were more interested in not stuffing a piece of history into a wall.

I don't know, I think the Maserati driver wasn't pushing the car, you can see how he catches up with those in front but when braking he didn't lower the gear changes and also didn't follow the racing line.

The line the driver is taking is a bit off. At least it seems so from that camera angle that he is not hitting the apex right in most of the turns.

Too bad the MC12 never raced at Le Mans because of the big GT1s being banned from 1999 as the top class by FIA... It would have been really really great in my opinion at Le Sarthe. Maybe not be able to compete against the unbeatable R8 LMP or the Bentley Speed 8 but still it would have had done great things for sure... ❤😍
