Mercedes Subframes are Disintegrating - Extended Warranty

►Are you covered?? This pre-existing extended warranty for Mercedes rear subframe issues has been extended. Formerly 4 years/50,000 miles, now 20 years/unlimited miles.

This extended warranty covers an important safety issue, as rust causes the rear subframe on a host of Mercedes to decay from the inside out. The corrosion is rarely detected in inspection due to it being mostly consolidated inside of the subframe before failure, until ultimately the mounting brackets for the rear lower control arms snap off of the subframe. Behavior of the rear end will become particularly skittish (especially under hard braking, with the car being notably twitchy and dangerous under heavier braking) and the only correct course of action is a full subframe replacement.

Formerly, the parts could be tricky to source from Mercedes. Following Mercedes confirming the retrofit of part number 2073509702 across affected vehicles, the dealer network now has a significantly bolstered stock of subframes.

Mercedes does note that the damage code necessary to replace the subframe is “35441 47” which notes “replacement of the rear subframe due to corrosion with perforation”

Vehicles affected are:
R171 SLK-Class (2005-2011)
R172 SLK-Class (2012-2017)
W218 CLS-Class (2012-2016)
R231 SL-Class (2013-2016)
W204 C-Class (2008-2015)
X204 GLK-Class (2010-2015)
W212/C207 E-Class/E-Class Coupe (2010-2017)

Talk to your dealer today about getting this service done, as its free of charge and resolves an inherent safety issue on afflicted vehicles.

Mercedes does note that the damage code necessary to replace the subframe is "35441 47" which notes "replacement of the rear subframe due to corrosion with perforation, " so your dealer may turn you away if scaling or surface rust are the only signs present. Once holes are present and the integrity is compromised, Mercedes will prioritize the replacement.

If you replaced your rear subframe due to this issue before Mercedes extended this warranty, talk to your dealer anyways! Some folks have had the cost of the repair reimbursed retroactively.

Just had mine done last month. So glad I did it because I experienced the rear end of my 2011 E350 floating at highway speeds. So thankful that nothing catastrophic happened whilst I was driving.

Yes!!! Been waiting for this to get notarized. I paid $2300 for my c207. My garage is too small for this job. My local dealer wanted over $4k.

Edit: Not only did my Mercedes reimburse me for the job, but all I had to do was hand over receipts & provide my VIN. No inspections whatsoever. It probably helped that I have a good relationship with the Benz specialist/indy who was the former foreman at that same dealership, where my new subframe came from. Only job I didn't do myself & it was free!

Had mine done two years ago. Its in for tires today. The new one still looks brand spanking new. Is it an upgraded piece or is it the lack of road salt from easy winters?

They say 20 years of warranty and unlimited miles but why is my warranty expired early should I go to the Mercedes customer service and ask them?
