Diva Tutorial: Filter Ping / Stack Index Modulation

Показать описание
Filter Ping is my absolute favorite "synth trick" of all. I use a lot of filter ping in my ambient patches, and also something called "Stack Index" or "Voice Index" modulation of the filter cutoff when the "peak" is at the brink of self oscillation i.e. "ping".

Thank you for unlocking a sound that followed me for years, yet engineering it seemed out of reach. Big ups for your content and the way you deliver. Breath of fresh air.

Fuck man, you're so smart. Thanks for explaining all this stuff in detail. Other patchers just go "alright i'm tossing in stackindex here and modulating this" - i'm like whutt.
You nailed it man.

Okay, so I screwed up the tuning here. When using *6* Stack Voices -- _not_ _4_ -- you're going to have 5 spaces _in_ _between_ those 6 voices, right? If you want each of those 6 voices to be tuned an octave apart, then each of those 5 spaces are going to be 12 semitones. So, that means the range of the Stack Index modulation of the Filter cutoff is going to be 60, since 12 X 5 = 60. *BUT* since Stack Index is a *bipolar* modulation source, Stack Index will modulate the Filter Cutoff in *both* directions, and because of that, we need to cut that modulation range in half: 60 % 2 = 30. *THIS* will ensure that each of those 6 Stack voices will be spread evenly an octave apart. The reason this didn't work in the video was because I used *4* Stack Voices instead of *6.*
