I agree with Jason on this one "football is ruthless", and honestly chilly's situation is way different to Chalobah's and Conor's who are just sacrificed to bring money, when chilly doesn't suit Maresca system, and he already spoke with him about that, he played only 45min the whole preseason out of 6 games!

Why does this panel think Ben Chilwell wasn't told in private that he has to leave? Why are they assuming he just found out only through the Enzo presser? That is such a daft thing to say. Enzo was asked a question about Chilwell and he answered it, don't think he used to presser to boot Chilwell out. It is about 2 weeks since first news came out Chilwell doesn't have a role in this Enzo team on the pitch.

As a Chelsea fan this is music to my ears, this means Maresca isn't a 1 trick pony and neither is he stubborn to just stick to that one way of playing, he was trying to implement a plan B because he anticipated teams to be stubbornly low block and defend with a packed in team that could winning matches hard going forward. I also think he did it because they were already coasting the league at that point and he didn't really care if they won it by 5 points or by 25 points in the end, but he was trying to evolve the team for the long term & sacrifice the short term dominance in the process.

Chelsea's philosophy is simple. Good English players stay and get a pay raise ( Cole Palmer), and English players who don't meet Chelsea's standards have to move on.

To be fair he barely played for Chelsea, Southgate gave him an intense run of international games for England and he was so burnt out he needed to have fluid drained in his knee, went back to Chelsea and barely played again . Sad 🥺

chilwell has played about 20 games in the last 3 seasons due to constant injuries whilst taking a hefty wage. He is the same a gallagher, a good steady player but not a world beater. Southgate took an injured luke shaw ahead of a fit chilwell to the euros which tells you everything you need to know. Chilly isnt an Ashley Cole and Gallagher is not a Ballack or Lampard. Teams move on and so do players when they dont fit the structure.
