For some reason, when it comes to class and identity, people always mention Asad Haider or O.O.Taiwo but not the Montreal-based writer Marc James Léger, whose books include Too Black to Fail: The Obama Portraits and the Politics of Representation (Red Quill 2022), Bernie Bros Gone Woke: Class, Identity, Neoliberalism (Brill 2022), Identity Trumps Socialism: The Class and Identity Debate after Neoliberalism (Routledge, 2023) and Class Struggle and Identity Politics: A Guide (Routledge, forthcoming June 2024). The problem is that reform demands became more or less inoperative since the rise of neoliberalism, the disappearance of Soviet communism, and the rise of an "end of history" globalization TINA and TINO logic on the postmodern left.
