Unboxing of a new 1 1/4 variable speed Makita router kit & Review. Kit # is RT0701CX7 I purchased this primarily to finish my AR 80% Lower Receiver Build, but it will come in hand for other things too. Here are a few links to the kit in the video. It is also available on amazon for the same price as Home Depot & Acme Electric.

I purchased this exact router as the cheaper 2nd choice recommended by 5D Tactical. I returned it. The #1 choice DeWalt DWP611 is orders of magnitude superior. I suggest you switch to the DeWalt. The problem with the Makita is that the depth adjustment is terrible. When trying to adjust the Makita, the depth changes by itself and flops around. The Makita rack and pinion gear system is too sloppy. When adjusting the depth of the DeWalt, the DeWalt stays adjusted and only changes when you make the change by rotating the depth adjustment ring. Maybe that is why you broke the expensive end mill.

On the Makita plunge base there's a little black knob that has white numbered increments marked off. What does that knob do? I bought that Makita model router and you can spin that knob from now till the cows come home and nothing happens. No adjustment is affected in the least by that impressive looking knob. Above that fake knob is another knurled knob and it actually operates independently of the one with the numbers on it. I assume it was meant to connect to the plunge rod to indicate fine adjustments because turning the upper knob raises and lowers the plunge stop rod, but the knob with the numbers on it does nothing. It is not connected to anything and spins separately from anything of consequence. Is it just there to look official because IT DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!! It is not mentioned in the user manual even though it does appear in the illustrations. It is never addressed and as far as I can tell it does nothing. I think the router could have been priced much cheaper had Makita simply not spent the money to include a fancy, attractive, smooth turning, official looking know that DOES NOTHING. Just sayin...
