Here's a great 10 minute legato workout for building strength in your fretting hand and being able to play legato lines in the style of Joe Satriani! This also serves as a great warmup exercise before you play or perform!

Make sure to watch til the end for the bonus lick I've included to tie together all the exercises in the video!

Not sure I’d use this for a warm up, I’d need a lie down after!😆

I just wanted to say thank you for this video because I look on YouTube every day at thousands of videos and nothing really strikes me as helping me or I get bored super easy. I have been doing this for two days now and it’s been a tremendous help for me. Thank you very, very very much.

Doing this everyday until I feel like I’ve gotten better

Day 1: This killed me bro, my fingers got tired after like the first exercise and I was going super slow. Very sloppy too, kept tapping B string on accident or my pointer would pull the string off the fretboard. Moving between strings was even slower

Day 2: Trilling was a bit better than yesterday, pinky still kinda sloppy but I did 6x20 seconds each finger. The scale patterns sound kinda uneven or out of rhythm because I pull off really fast so it sometimes jumbles the notes but it’s getting there. Switching strings was a bit cleaner once I got used to it

Day 3: The trilling was a bit easier (except for my pinky, I need to work on stretching from the 1st to 4th fret), I did 4x30 seconds each finger. Switching strings still had that bit of a fallout rhythm because my pull offs are faster than my hammer one but it felt easier

Day 4: Had to take a few days off because I was busy with the start of the new semester, but once I got back into it the trills were much better. And the 5-6-8 went really well. Still doing 4x30 seconds each exercise

Day 5: Significantly better. After doing this, I played the Man in the Box solo (which I’ve been stuck on for 2 ish weeks) almost perfectly. Super happy with the outcome, thanks for the exercises man 🙏

Hello, Greetings to you.

I was Just searching for legato exercises on the YouTube as I’m new to this technique. The search flooded my feed with numerous videos of many well renowned YouTubers, but I pressed yours. The video is very informative and without complexities, as you do what you do best.

I’m experiencing a slight issue while transitioning from one string exercise to 2 strings, which is, when I release the first string and move to the string below, at the time of releasing that string the open string noise starts to ring, palm mute isn’t helping. Can you give me an insight?

I feel too stiff and slow when I try to speed it up and go faster. Is it because I have no endurance?
