Why Animals Don’t Cross This Invisible Border 🚧 Wallace Line 😱

🌍 Did you know there's an invisible line in the Malay Archipelago that separates two entirely different worlds of wildlife? 🌏 This boundary, called the Wallace Line, runs from Bali to the southern Philippines and marks a stark contrast between Asian animals like rhinos 🦏 and tigers 🐅 on one side, and Australian creatures like kangaroos 🦘 and koalas 🐨 on the other. But why does this happen?
Millions of years ago, tectonic plate movements 🌋 created a deep sea strait 🌊 along the Wallace Line, preventing species from migrating and allowing evolution to take different paths. Even birds 🐦 and fish 🐠, capable of traveling long distances, rarely cross this line, adapting to their own unique ecosystems.
The fascinating story behind the Wallace Line, a natural divide that continues to shape the biodiversity of our planet. 🦘🐅🌿

I can't believe a bunch of animals and fish got together, drew a line, named it Wallace, and then agreed not to cross it. Nature truly is beautiful and complex.

"What about that shadowy place?"
"That's Australia. We don't fuck with that shit."

I've crossed the sea between Bali and Java, and the strength of the current is unimaginable. The enormous ferry I was on actually had to steer a long way away off the direct line between the start and end points before being swept sideways by the current.

So a fish was like "Nah, it's too deep. I'll drown here..."

As someone who lived in Sulawasi, cannot confirm there ever been koala there. There are however, tons of weird-looking marsupials.

It didn't stop homo sapiens. They had no clue of the Wallace Line.

The animation of continent being formed was great. Especially with the sound effects.

as Indonesian, we've been taught that there's not only one line, but there's two lines, they're Wallace's Line and Webber's Line

The reason is that the line is where 2 tectonic plates joined together. Millions of years ago, the Southern part.
Was on the same tectonic plate as Australia. Hence, it has the flora and fauna of Australia, and to the north of the line contains the flora and fauna of Asia.

There are 2 lines..
1) Wallace line, which separates Sunda shelf and Wallacea area
2) Weber line which separates Wallace area and Sahul shelf..

These 3 areas have different fauna..
1) sunda shelf : tiger, rhinos, elephant, etc (similar with asian fauna)
2) wallacea area : anoa, babirusa, komodo
3) sahul shelf: similar with australia fauna
