China Vows 'Targeted Military Actions' As Tensions Simmer Over Nancy Pelosi's Taiwan Visit

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has landed in Taiwan, drawing sharp reaction from China, which considers Taiwan as its own. China sees official American contact with Taiwan as encouragement to make the island’s de facto independence permanent. In her first statement after arriving in Taiwan, Pelosi said the US honours its commitment to democracy. America’s solidarity with the 23 million people of Taiwan is more important today than ever, she said.

According to Chinese media reports, China's Defense Ministry is on high alert and will launch a series of 'targeted military actions' as countermeasures to Nancy Pelosi's Taiwan visit.
