IB Music, Exploring as a Performer: Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op.64 for Horn

Dear all,

This is an exercise created for the Exploring as a Performer component (Exploring Music in Context) of the IB Music syllabus.

Here, students are required to explore the performing conventions and practices of stimulus music. In this particular example, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op.64 was used as a musical prompt and adapted for the French horn.

The exercise is not intended to accurately reproduce the original, but to aim for a version as close as possible. One, of course, needs to consider both student ability and the instrument's idiosyncrasies in rationalising the musical modifications.

Although it is a requirement for these exercises to be performed by the student, this example uses the software program Sibelius with NotePerformer as an enhancement.

It is stipulated by the IB for assessment purposes that this exercise should NOT be longer than two minutes in duration. This opening portion totals just under 60 seconds.

My best regards,
