Steve Jobs singlehandedly brought Apple back from the brink of bankruptcy in the early 90's. And Steve Jobs was a well-known tyrant in the office and @sshole out in the real world who regularly fired people without notice and berated service employees with little provocation. He was a design genius that let his teams have their head to do what they wanted. And he died at 56 at pancreatic cancer that he could have possibly survived with early surgery, but instead decided new age alternative mumbo-jumbo was a better idea. He was a very complex dude.

Wow! I just checked Jobs' Wikipedia page. I had no clue that he was adopted. His birth father is Syrian, birth mother German-American. An interesting read!

Apple brings in people from all over the world to work at Apple. What they don't mention in housing, the rents in the Santa Clara Valley are crazy. 1 bedroom apartment costs around $2, 300 a month and other apartments can go as higher. depending on the area, renting a 3 bedroom house will cost you over $4, 000 a month and this does not include most utilities, such as electric, gas, water and garbage service.

Spent all those billions to build a donut surrounded by trees. I used to work in Cupertino on De Anza Blvd and glad I don't now. Traffic was bad enough before the Space Ship was built.

The popular story of Steve Jobs has three parts: First, a visionary who brought computers into the home as beautiful and fun products, when before they were considered industrial equipment. Second, the storied culture clash with the Microsoft / Windows juggernaut of the '90s, which enabled cheaper, lower-quality computers that ultimately won out over Apple's beautiful ones on price and software diversity. And the third movement was the iPhone, where Apple finally conquered the world. The Apple campus is a fitting memorial.

Apple's HQ building was designed by a Brit, Norman Foster, so you should know about it. Also, Apple's head designer (now retired), Johnny Ive, is another Brit. So in a real sense, much of the Apple esthetic is British.
