Often in the black community we have this EXACT issue. Where the guardian just expects the child to just shut up, and only speak when spoken to. Where the guardian will TELL you how to feel, instead of you telling them how you feel.
You can tell the girl doesn't feel like she has a voice at home.

Grandma is rude as hell. Talk about respect, she needs to deserve respect as well in order to receive it. She's calling her granddaughter a bitch and slapping her.. That's not respect. That's pushing her granddaughter away.. This was an indeed sad situation

The young lady tells Karamo she is 17 and grandma says very sarcastically and childishly, " duh." What a stupid and ignorant thing for her to say.We know grandmom knows. Maybe Karamo doesn't. And whether he does/not know, please let her talk. WOW!!!

The grandma couldn't even accept or acknowledge that her granddaughter is a model student despite the school report confirming it. The fact that she diminishes any good quality her granddaughter has, but highlights the so-called "bad" qualities is telling. There is a difference between being stern & being hateful. I detect the latter. Some older women who were "fast" or out of control in their OWN youth project their disdain for their younger selves onto their female progeny. I wonder what kind of teen grandma was.

I wonder if Grandma is low key jealous of her granddaughter. It’s like she is doing everything possible to dim that young lady’s light. Sad to see.

I feel this young lady's pain. I feel that the grandma is too controlling. She needs to give her a little breathing room to be a young lady. Yes monitor her whereabouts because this world is crazy but don't smother her. Also feel that young girl doesn't think her grandmother loves her like she should. There is something missing in their relationship. Bond and Love is missing.

My grandma’s the same way. She shuts me down when I start talking, and everytime I start talking, she calls me a “smart mouth” all the time, and constantly yells, even if I walk away. She acts like she cares about me, but in my liking, I think she don’t. Definitely not gonna end like up her. Remember this solid advice: “Treat people the way how they wanna be treated, and they’ll treat you the way how you wanna be treated.”

I see straight through grandma. Grandma believes her granddaughter is going to end up like her parents. I like her style of raising her granddaughter but this bright young lady is on her way to success. She’s an honor student. Grandma is projecting resentment in her granddaughter and that’s wrong. Also this young lady is in ROTC which means she’s developing an early career for the Air Force. You go young lady and don’t let anyone stop you.

Granny shouldn't be surprised when a decade or two from now, she's sitting in some nursing home with no visitors. As soon as that girl gets some independence, she's not going to voluntarily deal with that grandma. Enforcing rules is a necessary part of parenting, & teens won't always like it. But that doesn't require a parent to be violent, dismissive of their feelings, etc. If you smack a teen in the mouth for expressing themselves, don't been too surprised if that teen starts equating love with violence & wind up in abusive relationships.
