VBCI: Review Of French Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The French Army currently operates a fleet of more than 600 VBCIs. It is classified as an infantry fighting vehicle designed and manufactured by GIAT Industries as a successor to the aging AMX-10P IFV. Deliveries began in 2008 and were completed in 2018.

The VBCI is built on an aluminium hull which carries a modular THD steel and titanium armour that can be replaced in the field. According to military-today, the VBCI provides protection against 14.5 mm armor-piercing rounds. Interior is fitted with spall liners.

@2:10 VBCI weighs 29 to 32 tons (depending on version), not 18 tons as stated
@3:50 FYI VBCI has been driven with only 6 wheels in operations. In 2011 in Afghanistan, a VBCI was hit by an IED and lost its 2 front right wheels. The VBCI made it back to base under its own power and went back on mission 2 hours later.
There is also the VBCI mk.2 version which has a 40mm gun and 2 ATGM.
