Today I want to explain why I believe King Harold may have been responsible for an ogre genocide, and if that is true, it would truly be the event that set the stage for everything else that happened in the Shrek saga thus far.

I think instead, Harold was terrified because if Fiona got it on with Shrek instead of Charming, which is what HE expected as per the Fairy Godmother's demand, the more likely she would have stripped away his human form as pure punishment
He was simply afraid to show his true self to his love Lillian

I still think fairy godmother was the actual "witch" who turned Fiona into a ogre, just so her son could someday marry her and be considered a hero, especially since perhaps the king used to like fairy, but he instead married Lillian.
there is a lot of details that can be used here to support this but it would explain Harold's story even more

I never considered any of this, but it does make sense, and it makes the Shrek movies a lot darker in the subtext if this is true…

I Think That Fairy Godmother is the BIG mastermind behind ogre slayings.

I think king harold was someone in a high ranking position during the war and The fairy god mothers son's father or grandfather was the one that actually started the war

It’s possible but because we know he kept his identity as the frog prince from even his wife, those so called “injuries” could have just been a cover story.
Also in the first Shrek film, Shrek scares the villagers by telling them what Ogers like to do with human. Making a coat out of their skin and making eyeball jelly for toast. So a slander campaign may not have even been necessary. Ogers may just enjoyed eating people and people were scared of them.

Frogs are also the ancestors of ogres. Cause ogres and frogs are the same species but not really related.

I wouldn't be surprised if this did happen. A good theory and video as always!

Interesting theory of king Harold's relationship with ogres. I'd say he was part of a larger scheme. Fairy Godmother's

When I saw the title, this is what I thought:

King Harold hated ogres and commited the genocide. Maybe the witch chose Fiona’s curse specifically because of his actions: to make the thing he loved most into the very thing that he hated most…not for political control, but for retribution. (We see curses placed to that effect often).

Fairy Godmother then took advantage of his moment of weakness to propose to isolate her and begin her plot to take over Far Far Away. Fiona, also hating ogres then hated herself and was also then repulsed by Shrek…but during their time together on the adventure, she saw beauty in herself and then found the love for Shrek.

Then forcing Harold to accept all ogres as they are.

Knowing how FAR FAR he went just to get rid of Shrek simply cause of what he is, I wouldn't put it past him to have a reason for it instead of just keeping up his end of the deal with Fairy Godmother.

An interesting theory and one that has some credence to it, if one listens carefully during the dinner in Shrek 2, one can note a level of anger towards Shrek, this may be more than just simple rage at Shrek marrying his daughter but from a history of war with his kind.

As for far far away and the kingdom itself, it might be something more, in Shrek Forever after, the Ogres seem unified under Fiona but seem to have a number of individuals of authority. So it may have been that in past the Ogres lived in tribal societies that may have fought both outsiders and each other. But unlike in the battle against Rumblestiltskin the Ogres didn't have anyone to unify them against Harolds' Crusade, and despite fighting back were unable to resist. Those that survived fled into the swamps and forests for isolation and more importantly protection.

And this tribal idea may carry on here, the Ogres "tribes" may have divided up even further for protection, staying together would mean that if attacked and defeated then they would lose everything but living alone, isolated meant that if one home is found then only one Ogre would be lost not the whole tribe.

That would be very dark back story indeed for a kids movie. I assumed when he said my old crusade wound bothering, was like BS, just showing off to his wife or some sht like that

I like your video because it makes the backstory of Shrek a lot more interesting than I would have expected if it is true or not that the oakers were warriors at heart but through one reason or another probably thanks to Fiona's father or something like that that it led to the yogers being more or less gone from the world only than Shrek and I would especially like it to be tied into Fiona's backstory about how she was cursed to become an ogre but we can only hope if something like that is ever confirmed either in a movie or do other types of media like a show thank you for your video

can't wait to see you make a video on King Triton's genocide of the Octupons in the Little mermaid series XD

1:56 Except he lives alone because his father was a brute of an ogre who tried eating him. Then due to townsfolk always calling him a monster and trying to attack him, he became more of a recluse, scaring off anyone who came close.

So he commited a crime against ogre kind aka a war crime that’s dark

This theory makes a lot of sense it’s not hard to imagine an alternate timeline where this kept on going without Shrek which was kinda done in Forever After but with Rumplestilskin in charge

while Harold could have gone to war with the ogres I don't think he started the genocide and was more of a generational thing and I think the kingdom always belonged to his family and could be that kingdom started out small and wanted to get bigger to keep up with the human population but they going ogre territory and drover the ogre off their land and it could be that humans outbred the ogres having more children, yes Fiona did have triplets but I think Orgres more than likely had one child at a time

so he didn't start the hatred or genocide against the ogres he just fell for it and it could be by the time he was in the Crusades that it had been going on for a long time and the ogre's population was already dindling or they spread out. in real life, the Crusades lasted for centuries so Harold was most likely a soldier in them at the end

Dang. We knew he was a jerk but a genocider? That… makes you look at King Harold (and the series) very differently.

But a very interesting theory, dude. As always.
