On November 27, South Korea officially delivered its next-generation 10,000-ton Aegis destroyer Jeongjo Daewang (DDG-995) to the Navy. It is the second ship in the third phase of South Korea's destroyer experimental project. In terms of displacement, this ship is the largest destroyer ever built by the South Korean Navy, ranking among the top in Asia. The Jeongjo Daewang class destroyer features significant improvements over previous models, including its Aegis combat system, ship-based missile defense system, and onboard weapons, with notable enhancements in long-range strike capabilities and its advanced Vertical Launch System (VLS). South Korean media have stated that this destroyer is expected to become the leading warship in Asia. The ship is designed to safeguard South Korea’s maritime rights, ensure freedom of navigation, and counter the growing threats in the Korean Peninsula region. It strengthens South Korea’s strategic defense and reinforces its status as a naval power in the region.

South Korean shipyards have the capacity and technology to build warships and submarines for the U.S. Navy and allied navies.

North Korea is reportedly constructing nuclear submarines with technology transferred from Russia, and already possesses 80 nuclear weapons. This situation is concerning for both South Korea and the United States. The presence of two rogue states in Northeast Asia is particularly alarming for Japan and South Korea, nations heavily dependent on maritime trade. Consequently, it is natural for these countries to focus on military expansion.

Exclusive viait to Hyundai by professional Naval News reporting agency.

Also, this may interest:

Native Korean pronouncing his nation's ship. In his case, ar 4:15, he clearly enunciates with a "j" in both syllables in Jeongjo.

The reporter and the Hyundai employee then visit the Chungnam. His pronunciation is like "choong-nam"/"chung-nam".

It's NOT "jee-ohn-joh", ever.

It's far closer to jon-joh, or chonh-joh...

Google Translate is (one of) your friend(s), if you seek it. Perhaps tour AI voice actor needs a cultural update/upgrade.

정조

정조대왕

Pronounced closer to "Cjhohn-joh day-hwang"

(Similarly, Spanish and other languages have compound consonants that are difficult for language learners, but come easily with quick, earnest practice.)

But, any authentic-voiced Korean translation app could help you before release of vids having Korean words.

The AI tools are sorely lackluster/lacklustre. Don't rely on them for things you can verify via commonly available native language tools.

Otherwise, nice imagery.

The Atago, Maya, Sejong, and Jeongjo are excellent revisions of the Burke, look cleaner/sleeker/more intimidating.

Thanks for the visuals.

The name of the destroyer should have been spelled "JUNGJO" instead of JEONGJO. I have no idea why they spelled that way. Kind of dumb.

If the displacement is around 10, 000 tons, it should be at least as large as a nuclear-powered cruiser.
But since it is not, there may be a problem with the operational radius.
And since there is no aircraft carrier, it seems that free operations are still impossible. But it is better than nothing.

Does South Korea ready to fight North Korea in the sea? They go to a wrong path. They need to invest in land and air military.
