LEGO Power Functions is the predecessor to the powered up system. With LEGO Power Functions now being completely retired, it is important to study its history. LEGO Power Functions was a very special system!

But the remote control stunt racer is still being sold doesn't that mean that power functions is still alive technically ?

I agree with your points about the PF system but it is awesome that we can now connect our technic motors to a programmable mindstorms hub as they are cross compatible.

2007 - 2014 was the golden age of Lego Technic!

You didn't mention the 9688 LEGO Education Renewable Energy set, which was still technically power functions, and had a lot of strange new components. Like the E motor.

Your knowledge of Lego Technic is impressive. I enjoy watching you talk about it. It would be great if someone could come up with an interface/controller unit that can accept any of the motors and sensor connections. Maybe based on a Raspberry pi, that uses a small display and some kind of programming GUI. Also it would allow you to use a pc monitor to do your model’s programming. You would be programming directly into the controller, so no downloading of programs.

I think Lego should release a pf compatible pu line, I think it would earn a lot of profit

It's so annoying that the #8883 M-Motor is retired now, because I need a replacement (the wire on my old one broke) for my #42070 6x6 Truck. I had barely had it for 2 weeks, by the time it started to become unreliable and faulty... Thanks LEGO!

LEGO Powered UP is still considered as Power Functions 2.0, so technically the entire Power Functions system itself is still around although the stackable cables are gone.

The power functions were simpler, and each component had it's own properties. The XL was for super strength, the L was for a more compact XL, or an upgraded M, and the M was the universal simple one. Meanwhile, because of software flaws in the power cutting part of the hub, the powered up and control + motors don't have much of a difference, and are not as easy to implement as you have to use bluetooth.

My problems with control + is that the cables cant stack, you need a phone and that it’s really expensive. Nice vid though!

A week ago I bought 2 brand new (sealed) PF servo motors (88004) because I’m building a rc car and my older one broke so I bought 2 of them and probably I’ll leave one sealed for times when the price will be much higher than it is now and maybe sell it. (Sorry if there are some gramatical mistakes, I’m not native speaker. I just wanted to say that I love PF system much more than PU)

I’m looking for a “I think” Lego powered car where you needed a computer to play a disk that had the instructions as well as download games onto the motors small computer like where you needed to drive it into objects “power crystals” as part of the game you downloaded into it. The motor had a plastic front and the three types I remember were colored red purple and blue. Any ideas?

Hopefully lego will make an adapter for the lego control plus hubs which allow you to connect 8 motors instead of 4
