Not helpful. You didn’t complete the process. It does shows the number in settings of FaceTime and messages. But it should also show a tick mark beside the number/email. Then only it works .

I have Airtel SIM card after update it in to iOS 15 the issue is occurring. Earlier it works fine with Airtel Carrie.

Remove number in Apple ID > force restart (volume up/volume down/ right side button)
