In a clash of generations, ADCC Legend Jean Jacques Machado takes on BJJ rising star Marcio Pe De Pano Cruz in the quarter finals off ADCC 2001 in the Absolute division.

Jean Jacques Machado is a legendary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) competitor and instructor. Regarded as one of Carlos Gracie Junior‘s top students in the 1980’s, a status cemented with his wins over several important grapplers of his generation, including grappling and mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar Wallid Ismail at the Copa Atlantica tournament in Brazil. Jean Jacques Machado continued his good form after he moved to the United States to open his own academy, winning years later the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC).

Marcio Cruz, also known by his nickname “Pe de Pano” is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Carlos Gracie Junior who is regarded by many as one of the best ultra-heavyweight competitors in the history of the sport. During his heyday, in the early 2000s, Mario Cruz was one of the biggest stars of the Gracie Barra Academy, conquering numerous titles on the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) circuit, including world titles in 2002 and 2003. Pe de Pano fought also in mixed martial arts, reaching the pinnacle of cage fighting by competing in the UFC.
