Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Scotch Game - Potter Variation!

In today's video we cover the Scotch Game and specifically the Potter Variation. The Scotch Game starts off with the following moves:

1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. d4 exd4
4. Nxd4

The Scotch Game is one of the best chess openings for white against e5. It holds good chess opening strategy, chess opening moves, chess opening theory, and chess opening ideas. The Potter Variation in particular is a response against the Classical Variation in which black plays Bc5. The Potter Variation is a favorite of @GothamChess - and has been played by top grandmaster players such as Anish Giri, David Navara, and Teimour Radjabov. The Potter Variation of the Scotch Game is very aggressive, giving you attacking chances on the kingside along with a space advantage. This is a good chess opening for chess beginners who want to improve at chess fast, and beat higher rated players. In this beginners chess lesson and chess opening guide, we simply look to give you some key lines/variations to work with along with the common chess strategy. We hope you enjoy learning the Potter Variation of the Scotch Defense!

Like so many of your presentations, this one is short and to the point. It can be used as stand-alone instruction or as an introduction to deeper study. That's why I recommend your videos to my chess playing mates that want to improve.

I have used the Scotch game in the past, but I never played the Potter variation. After watching this video, I am going to start playing this variation. It definitely leads to positions that are easy to play for white and gives good winning chances. Thanks Chess Giant for another great video.

I have about 120 Lichess ELO to go, then I give up my King’s (Bishops) Gambit and take up the Scotch! Thx!

Bro you're blowing my mind with all the Scotch Game coverage. You officially gave me an e4 opening for my repertoire (I am a hardcore London player) but now, thanks to you, I have variety to my game. Playing a buddy who I regularly go against, when I played e4 that first game he immediately was like "wait.... what?! No London!???" lol. Thanks man, really appreciate this. I'm going to take a look at your Patreon.

Awesome man thanks!! Just started playing the scotch recently too! Also, can i ask what you think about the sicilian kan? Any plans to do a vid on it? I'm interested since theres less theory and a bit more flexible especially at club level. Thanks for vids! @the chess giant
