The Amp by Milkman Sound - The Full Story

What is The Amp? First and foremost, it’s a 50W Guitar amplifier. The preamp is based around a single 12AX7 running at high voltage in a discrete Class A circuit. The tube preamp reacts with a guitar the same way any tube amplifier does: it generates harmonics and the sweet sounding high fidelity tone that tubes are known for. Along with tube EQ. there is on-board reverb and tremolo effects so that The Amp can be used as a grab and go amplifier. But thats just the beginning of what The Amp can do.

I am so happy to see guitar amps being made for real world use. Usually the newer practical designs are "jazz" amps. Lighter, aux outs, etc.. But most of them are not full featured. The Quilter Micropro 200 is a good example. That is a full featured amp. I would like to see more use of the small military style tubes, like the one found in the "Blu Amp". Bass players got hip YEARS ago!. It is to the point now they have a great selection of practical amplification. What did guitarist ask for AND receive. Low wattage, EXTREMELY expensive bedroom amps, with NO features. Go figure. I am a professional musician. I want an amp that is versatile. compact, full featured, and loud enough to do most gigs. I do not think that is an impossible request. I love the sound of a Fender Hot Rod. But the amps only work for 2 months. Same with the 40 watt Vietnamese Marshall amps. At any rate, I believe this is a step in the right direction.

You said it runs 50W at 8ohm and 100W at 4ohm. What about running it into a 16ohm speaker? Thanks love The Amp can't wait to get my hands on one.

Can you tell me more about the headphone output stage?

It looks to me that one has to put pedals at the input of The Amp to use the power amp section and pedals connected to the Pedal Level Out cannot use the power amp section of The Amp, thus eliminating the pickup-to-tube connection if you want to use the power amp section with pedal effects. Was that clear? Either guitar>The Amp>pedals>other amplifier or guitar>pedals>The Amp>speaker.
That seems odd to me to limit the signal chain in this way.

On the XLR direct out into a recording interface, does this unit emulate a speaker or is there a need for an impulse response in the DAW?

I cant get over the cleans and reverb of my deville. I assume the reverb won't be exactly the same as that big spring tank, but will these cleans be comparable to a deville?

Still have to carry a big ass speaker, so what's the point.

Good idea but could be improved methinks.

How about a smaller footprint and instead of trem and reverb have TWO amps for stereo config, no foot switches needed.IE an amp that fits on a pedal board next to, behind or ABOVE the pedals so the effects and amps are a single discreet board for quick set up and break down. Most guitarists have lots of pedals so maybe better to focus offering the stereo option no other manufacturer offers - it's a GREAT sound having that stereo field and that would make it so simple for set up/break down.

If I knew, I would have bought this instead of my Nextone Artist. I have enough pedals

Does it sound MORE (or less) like a good regular tube amp?
